Healthcare in New Zealand

Healthcare professionals are in high demand throughout New Zealand, right from Invercargill to Kaitaia.   New Zealand's healthcare system is a publicly funded one, mainly through general taxation and treatments are usually free or subsidised. There are a number of District Health Boards which fall under this system.  There are also multitudes of private practices and a small amount of larger private hospitals.

Currently there are over 1000 healthcare vacancies that need to be filled urgently, and there just aren’t enough qualified health professionals in New Zealand to fill these critical appointments.  Alpha Healthcare specialise in the following areas:

Video Conference Interviewing

Alpha Recruitment can offer you the opportunity to remain where you are for the greater part of the process, if not the entire process, as interviews can be conducted via videoconference, such as Skype, which is free of charge to you.

Location Research

Alpha Recruitment will assist in determining which area of New Zealand would best suit you, and our consutlants will even research down to finding the nearest supermarket, schools or even the most conveniently located gym!

Immigration Support

Alpha Recruitment are not licensed immigration advisors, and therefore cannot advise on immigration matters, however, we will provide our full support and can put you in touch with the right people.  We will advise approximate length of time for the immigration process, and support you right down to providing assistance with completing any necessary forms.

THE PROCESS

Residency process for Skilled Migrant Residence

  1. Complete an initial self assessment
  2. Submit an expression of interest form (available online at $400 or available as a hard copy at $500)
  3. Immigration selects your expression of interest for checking
  4. You are asked to apply for residency
  5. You are granted residency


Skilled Migrant Residence Timeframes

Expressions of interest are selected from the pool every two weeks.  The table below states the average time of processing, once your expression of interest has been selected from the pool.

Temporary Work Visa or Work Permit Process

  1. Complete the work visa application form
  2. Submit the fee and required evidence
  3. Submit evidence of full or provisional registration for your occupation
  4. submit evidence that you meet our New Zealand's health requirements
  5. Submit evidence of your offer of employment
  6. Lodge your application

Work Permit Timeframes

The Work to Residence visa takes priority as this is for those who are on the long-term skills shortage list, and this covers most healthcare professionals.
