The weather’s turning, school holidays are coming, destinations off shore are still offering great deals and the airlines are desperate, so maybe its time to take a few of those holidays you've been putting off all year and let Alpha's temporary staff do your toil while the sun shines. Apparently recession flu never reached Australia. New Zealand hasn't been quite so lucky and we may be due for another dose of Aussie capital flowing into our vulnerable markets, although how long the banks can keep pouring money into housing is anyone's guess. It’s time we in New Zealand lived up to our entrepreneurial reputation and produced more world scale competitive businesses. Taking one off the Aussies never hurts and New Zealand scored a very understated but important win a month or so ago when all the British High Commission passport processing for our region was consolidated in Wellington. Worried about our young people coming out of school illiterate and lacking numeracy skills? Well according to some recent TVNZ news, profiled in The New Zealand Week, you should be! more. As a counterpoint however we last week had four young people talk to a group of us about their experiences at the Rotary Youth Leadership Award camp run by Rotary and the New Zealand Army each year.. What a well-rounded, dedicated and well-educated group they were!

Do you have staff working for you on a temporary work permit? There is a lot of misinformation in the market at the moment and, yes, some people are going home, however for one of the more balanced articles on this I've seen in recent times read this from Glen Standing of Golden Sands Migration.

A lot of words have been floating around lately, like synergy, rebalancing, recession-proof, green shoots and "best recruiter". Quite frankly, the poetry is gone. Fortunately, we’ll tell you the secret word. Trust. Trust is a must for ongoing relationships in any society, marketplace or just between two people who care about each other. We believe in this and its a shame that there are sections in our society who take delight in ripping others off. Avoid them, the money's not worth it.

Lastly, there are signs that the seasonal buildup of stock is somewhat delayed this year, but our clients are telling us that it will happen and we are rebuilding our temporary staff numbers in Freightwise.
