You heard it
here first!
Welcome to the
fourth edition of Agentalpha! It’s the publication’s first birthday and to
celebrate, we are throwing in a spot prize. Recapping on our last issue there were many that took
advantage of our recruitment sale so congratulations if you received the
great savings we offered with our last promotion. We also announced our flexible approach to our fees,
introduced our newest member of our team, Manjit – who no doubt most of you
will have at least spoken to if not had the pleasure of meeting by now. We also discussed who our clients are
and how we seek to personalise our relationships. In this issue we would like to introduce to you our newest
venture – healthcare recruitment, and invite you to check out our new web
pages. One of our consultants
makes it to National Radio – hear what she has to say on volunteering in
between jobs and of course, don’t forget to check out our latest candidates
too… you may just want to snap one up!
Please feel free to email us your feedback/comments. Also, if you would like to add
anything to our newsletter, do not hesitate to call!

A Note From Our Managing Director
|
|

Colin Mathieson
Managing Director and Owner
Alpha Recruitment
The End of the Beginning, or the Beginning
of the End? We’ve heard a lot
in recent weeks about the “green shoots” that seem to be appearing in world
markets and almost as much about the fact that the “global financial
crisis” appears to have reached its low point with a lot of
|
confidence returning to lending for
growth. This is good news both
for us here in New Zealand and for many of our clients who provide goods
and services to overseas clients.
However we may have only just reached the end of the rapid slide in
employment, with the prospect of more jobs being disestablished albeit more
slowly in the coming twelve to eighteen months.
As mentioned in a previous
newsletter the overall
population of New Zealand continues to grow at around 40,000 people per
annum, another city basically.
Combined with a low
|
number of new housing starts this year and into early 2010, this will mean
demand for new housing will definitely lift, which will impact on our local
businesses from late 2010 onwards.
Can’t wait.
We are working hard for our clients
finding great people. Whatever
the state of our economy great people
matter,
and we are excited by the prospect of better times to come, although
understand that they may be some time away. In the meantime I know our Alpha consultants will be
keeping in contact with you and assisting any way that they can, and in the
meantime I hope to have the opportunity catch up with you over breakfast.

Who’s excited about the beginning of Spring? We are, especially since it’s our
publication Agentalpha’s first
birthday too! In fact, to celebrate
the occasion we are giving away a spring breakfast for one lucky client and
a colleague of their choice with our Managing Director, Colin
Mathieson.
Colin’s background is with Deloitte Consulting as
a Management Consultant where he spent nine years.
|
Colin has a lot of valuable knowledge which he is
happy to share over brekkie, and he is happy to advise or answer any
questions you may have regarding general business matters! So what’s your
fancy? Croissant, muffin,
pancakes, bacon and eggs? Start thinking because next Thursday, on September 10th
you may just get a call from us! If you know of anyone who would like to take this
opportunity, we welcome an entry from them too!

someone else's! The Alpha staff are open and honest and operate to the

21 New Jobs for Wellington!
|
|
As we all know, jobs are a little harder to come by these
days, and unemployment is rising. However the team at Alpha are extremely
proud to say we have been working with the British High Commission to fill 21
new vacancies in Wellington. The High Commission has built a new Passport
Production Centre for the Australasian Region inside their Thorndon
premises. The centre opened on July 31st and is the biggest operation of
it’s kind outside the United Kingdom.
Alpha was responsible for a large part of the recruitment
process, and received over 450 applications from all over New Zealand. We developed an in-depth screening
process
|
to ensure we were able to find candidates of the calibre and
skill sets that the BHC were looking for. It was vital that the new employees were team players
who would excel in a large group, which would soon be processing an
estimated 85,000 passport applications annually!
As well as initial screening, skills testing, criminal/credit
and reference checks, Alpha provided assistance and advice with interviews,
and the final selection and appointment of the chosen candidates. We are
pleased to report the group of newly trained staff have gelled as a team
and are already meeting the targets for issuing British passports.

|
|
Yes, we finally did it. Alpha has set up a healthcare division. We are currently working with candidates
locally and abroad, within a range of professions.
Although we are quite new to this – we do have
partners in the field so we are talking to as many experts as we can in
order to learn as much as we can.
We are focusing on providing candidates coming from
|
overseas with a thorough understanding of New
Zealand, our culture and what is like to live in our stunning country. If you have any information you can
share with us regarding the medical industry, be it articles, do’s vs do
not’s, where the best spots are to work and what makes one medical
professional stand out from the next – we want to hear from you!

Volunteering in between work
|
|
We are noticing an increase in the number of
candidates who are undertaking volunteer assignments for charities.
|
This is a great way to keep your skills current, and
contributing to society while you are looking for paid employment.

One of our senior consultants in Wellington, Ashleigh
Graham was recently interviewed by RNZ on the subject.
