Our client is a dedicated organisation that supports the holistic wellbeing of tangata whaiora and whānau across Aotearoa. They provide essential services that meet the diverse health and wellbeing needs of the communities they serve, with a focus on improving mental health and wellbeing for vulnerable populations.

This role will ensure the seamless, coordinated delivery of primary mental health assessment, intervention, and support for offenders (service users) at all stages of their engagement in the Department of Corrections continuum. This includes transition from the community into prison, during incarceration, and the provision of ongoing support as required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Brief Intervention & Support: Provide brief, strengths-based interventions to reduce the impact of mental health issues for service users.
  • Clinical Interventions: Deliver at least 15 hours per week of face-to-face, evidence-based clinical interventions as identified in service users’ assessments and plans.
  • Education & Staff Support: Offer at least 2 hours per week of educational sessions to corrections staff, enhancing their understanding of mental health issues and needs.
  • Collaborative Care: Work in partnership with service users to develop and implement care plans where appropriate.
  • Transition Support: Assist with release planning and the transition of offenders into the community from prison.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification (minimum Level 7), e.g. Nursing, Social Services, Psychology.
  • Current Full APC with DAPAANZ Registration (or registration with a professional body under the HPCA Act 2003 or Social Worker Registration Act 2003).
  • Minimum 3 Years’ Mental Health Experience (with a focus on mental health and/or addiction services).
  • Ability to undertake comprehensive mental health assessments and provide brief interventions (including talking therapies).
  • A "can-do" attitude, resilience, flexibility, and a good sense of humour.
  • Must be eligible to work in New Zealand.
  • Familiarity with community resources and support systems.
