My client, a well-established learning institution, is looking for a passionate and experienced counsellor to join their team on a fixed term contract basis until December 2020. This role is part-time and enjoys a Tuesday – Friday working week based in Mt Albert and Waitakere.

As a Counsellor, you'll manaaki the success of their learners, through providing professional, high quality counselling services with a particular focus on supporting our Māori learners. 

You'll act as a subject matter expert in Tikanga and share the values and practices of Kaupapa Māori with your wider team, helping to upskill and support them. You will have the opportunity to participate in Powhiri and join in with Marae team and events, increasing your visibility as a counsellor and supporting accessibility to the counselling services.   

 

A bit about you:

• Experience in providing counselling services in an educational or social service setting
• Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds, and in dealing with a broad range of issues including risk assessment and intervention
• You will hold a Post Graduate or Masters tertiary qualification, which is acceptable to the NZAC (or equivalent), and have full membership of NZAC (or equivalent
• You will have an in-depth understanding of Tikanga and Te Reo Māori and the values and practices of Kaupapa Māori  
• Successful comprehensive experience as a Counsellor/Mental Health Professional
• Experience in successfully assessing and managing risk
