Our client, a respected palliative care provider based in Newtown, Wellington, is seeking a Clinical Nurse Educator to join their dedicated team. This is a unique opportunity to step into a pivotal role where your clinical expertise, leadership, and commitment to culturally safe, evidence-based practice will directly influence patient care and professional growth across the organisation.
This is a part time permanent position working 4 days per week, Monday-Thursday.
About the Role
In this role you’ll be a trusted advisor, coach, and mentor—working alongside nursing and multi-disciplinary teams to strengthen clinical capability across both inpatient and community settings.
- Provide 1:1 coaching and mentoring to nursing staff
- Support nurses new to palliative care to become confident, capable practitioners
- Guide experienced clinicians in achieving their professional development and learning goals
- Organise and deliver clinical study days
- Educate and support community-based nurses
- Coach staff in developing advanced assessment and critical thinking skills
- Support student placements and preceptors
- Contribute to quality improvement and clinical effectiveness programmes
- Collaborate with external healthcare partners to expand learning opportunities
- You’ll also play an important role in designing and developing in-house professional development programmes and contributing to research and best practice in palliative care nursing.
The successful candidate will have:
- Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (Registered Nurse scope) and a current practising certificate
- Extensive recent experience in specialist palliative care
- A postgraduate qualification in nursing (preferably with a focus on palliative care and/or education), or a commitment to undertake further study (desirable)
- Proven mentoring, coaching, preceptoring, and clinical assessment experience
- The ability to work at an advanced level of practice with strong critical thinking skills
- Confidence supporting staff across both inpatient and community settings
- Strong communication skills and the ability to share knowledge in 1:1, group, and online formats
- Understanding of PDRP requirements
- Full, current driver’s licence
