Are you a strong clinical leader ready to influence the future of specialist palliative care?
Our client is seeking an experienced Inpatient Unit Manager to lead and coordinate the delivery of high-quality palliative care services within their Inpatient Unit.
This is a pivotal leadership role where you will guide a multidisciplinary team, champion best practice in palliative care, and ensure patients and their families/whānau receive compassionate, culturally appropriate, person-centred care.
About the Role
You will play a key role in aligning day-to-day service delivery with the organisation’s strategic direction, while ensuring smooth communication across service managers, educators, clinical coordinators, and community services. Key duties of the role include:
- Provide leadership and operational oversight of the Inpatient Unit
- Foster a strong interdisciplinary team culture focused on excellence in specialist palliative care
- Oversee admissions, transfers, discharge processes, and overall service coordination
- Lead performance management and professional development of the multidisciplinary team
- Manage recruitment, orientation, staffing resources, and workforce planning
- Monitor and manage budgets effectively
- Support and implement strategic initiatives alongside the Director of Clinical Services
- Contribute as an active member of the Hospice leadership group
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven experience in clinical leadership or health management
- Postgraduate qualification and/or specialist palliative care or leadership training. (desirable)
- Current practising certificate (nursing background preferred)
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams in a healthcare setting
- Strong leadership capability with the ability to inspire, guide, and influence
- Financial and resource management competence
- Experience leading change and implementing strategic initiatives
- Commitment to interdisciplinary teamwork and achieving shared goals
- Understanding of quality improvement, research, and education principles
- Appreciation of hospice philosophy, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and culturally responsive care
- Full, current driver’s licence
