Technical Writer – Systems Transition Project

4-Month Contract | Wellington | Start ASAP

A central government agency is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support a major systems and process transition project within its innovation and business support functions.

This role sits within a significant integration programme following the transition of a national innovation-focused Crown entity into a large public sector ministry. The focus is on reviewing, standardising, and migrating core operational process documentation into a new enterprise process management platform.

About the Role

As part of this transition, all existing process documentation, currently housed in a legacy process mapping tool, must be reviewed, validated with stakeholders, recreated where required, and migrated into Promapp.

This role requires someone who combines:

  • The communication and investigative strengths of a Business Analyst

  • The precision and structure of a Technical Writer / Documentation Specialist

You will ensure processes are accurately captured, clearly documented, aligned to ISO9001 standards, and fit for long-term governance within the new system. Once established, you will also provide guidance to business users on maintaining and managing process documentation effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and assess existing process documentation

  • Engage with stakeholders to validate, clarify, and refine processes

  • Recreate and standardise documentation within Promapp

  • Ensure alignment with ISO9001 and quality management standards

  • Define high-level requirements and clearly articulate problem statements

  • Support business users in maintaining and updating documentation post-migration

  • Provide practical guidance on process governance and best practice

About You

You will bring:

  • Strong Business Analysis communication and investigation skills

  • Proven experience in process documentation and technical writing

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills

  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication abilities

  • Solid BA fundamentals: elicitation, documentation, stakeholder engagement

  • Initiative, patience, and a solution-focused mindset

  • Ability to work autonomously and manage workload at full utilisation

  • Experience with Promapp and familiarity with quality frameworks (e.g., ISO9001) highly desirable

Contract Details

  • Duration: 4 months (ending 29 June 2026)

  • Location: Wellington

  • Utilisation: 100%

  • Start: ASAP

This is an opportunity to play a key role in a high-visibility public sector transition programme, helping embed strong, sustainable process management practices within a newly integrated environment.
