Payroll Investigator – Temporary Contract (ASAP Start)

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Investigator to join our team on a short-term contract based in Ellerslie. This role will suit someone with strong payroll knowledge who can quickly identify issues, investigate discrepancies, and provide accurate resolutions.

About the role

You will be responsible for reviewing payroll records, investigating variances, and supporting the team to resolve payroll-related queries. You’ll work with sensitive employee information, so accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail are essential.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate payroll discrepancies and historical payroll data
• Review timesheets, pay calculations, deductions, and adjustments
• Identify root causes of payroll errors and recommend solutions
• Reconcile payroll information and validate findings
• Liaise with internal teams and stakeholders to resolve queries
• Prepare clear documentation and investigation reports

About you

You will have:

• Previous experience in payroll, payroll auditing, payroll investigations, or a similar role
• Strong understanding of payroll processes and employment-related payments
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• Confidence handling confidential employee information
