Are you an experienced policy professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys working at the interface of policy and implementation?

We’re looking for a Policy Adviser to join a supportive and high-performing team to help shape and deliver a significant system reform programme.

Ideally looking for someone who is available immediately but there is flexibility for the right person. This is a fixed term contract through until the end of September 2026 with a high likelihood of extension beyond this and the election as this is a high priority programme.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-profile policy programme involving complex system change. The work will require strong analytical thinking, excellent writing skills, and the ability to interface with policy and implementation or operational delivery.

You will work on complex and time-sensitive policy development, supporting Ministers through key decision points. Immediate deliverables are to provide the minister with advice so they can report back to cabinet. This will inform later deliverables that include a detailed and finalised implementation plan in a years’ time.

This is meaningful, high-impact work with clear milestones and visibility at senior levels.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A few years’ experience in policy development
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality work to tight timelines
  • Experience working at the interface between policy and implementation and operations
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills
  • The ability to contribute to Cabinet papers, briefings and ministerial advice
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships
  • A relevant tertiary qualification
