We are looking for a Principal Policy Advisor or strong Senior Policy Advisor to provide policy advice and support a varied programme of cross agency work.

The role

You will contribute to a range of important policy work, which may include:

• Leading or supporting significant policy projects related to Justice sector and court systems policy
• Coordinating and providing input into cross-government projects led by other agencies
• Assisting with contributions to the BIM
• Providing policy advice on complex and sensitive issues
• Supporting and coaching other policy advisors and senior advisors
• Building strong relationships across with internal and external stakeholders

About you

We are looking for an experienced policy professional who brings:

• Strong public policy and machinery-of-government knowledge
• Proven experience leading or contributing to significant policy projects
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex issues accessible
• Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills
• Any knowledge or experience with Family law or court systems is advantageous
• The ability to anticipate risks, test analysis and provide sound, pragmatic advice
• A collaborative approach and an interest in coaching and developing others

Experience with the legislative process is advantageous but not essential. Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi analysis skills are highly desirable.
