Calling all Senior Policy Advisors! We are currently recruiting for a number of Senior Policy Advisor roles with central government agencies based in Wellington.

There are a mix of fixed term contract and permanent opportunities working across a variety of areas and would be suited to experienced policy professionals who enjoy working on complex issues, developing policy and providing clear, evidence-based advice.

The roles

Depending on the opportunity, you could be working across:

• Legislative and regulatory reform
• First-order policy development and analysis
• Leading or contributing to the provision of effective policy advice
• Cross-agency policy work and providing second-opinion advice
• Policy portfolios involving Justice sector, human rights, court systems, national security, organised crime, financial crime including AML/CFT, firearms and other emerging issues

About you

We're looking for Senior Policy Advisors with:

• Strong policy development and analysis experience working on first-order public policy is essential
• A sound understanding of machinery of government

·         Legislative experience is advantageous for some roles but isn't essential. What matters most is demonstrated experience in genuine policy development and the ability to clearly articulate your contribution.

• Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills – including the ability to write briefings, cabinet papers and other policy related documents
• The ability to quickly get across complex issues and provide clear, practical advice
• Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills
• Experience working collaboratively with agencies, operational teams and subject matter experts
• A flexible, proactive and team-focused approach
