About the role:

Our client is a large government agency looking for a project manager to support the delivery of process and project management activities across a large international development programme. The role might suit junior project managers, project / programme coordinators or analysts looking to get involved in the international development space.

The role involves working as part of a busy team to provide process and administrative support across contract, procurement, budget / finance and supplier management activities for specific projects as part of a wider programme of work. Candidates also need to have strong business rather than IT backgrounds and any exposure to policy or similar environments would be beneficial. Strong critical analysis and / or writing skills are also essential. Any exposure to international or pacific development spaces is also a bonus but not essential.

This is an hourly rate contract opportunity starting in October / November 2026 for 12-months. The role will be Wellington based and ideally full time but there might be some flexibility for the right candidate.

Key skills and experience required:

·         Strong Project Management or coordination experience in the public sector

·         Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver projects in difficult environments including the management of more than one project simultaneously

·         Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills are essential as the roles will be working across multiple teams internally and externally

·         Experience in contract and procurement management and management of external suppliers

·         Budget and financial management experience

·         Comfortable being hands on in terms of processes and administrative management of projects

·         Business or policy project exposure is ideal but not essential

·         Experience working in an international context, and an understanding of development issues is useful but not essential

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills
