We are seeking experienced Senior Policy Advisors to join busy central government policy teams working across significant policy, legislative and regulatory reform programmes.

This is an opportunity to work on complex and high-profile policy issues, providing advice that will support Ministers and senior decision-makers and contribute to the development and implementation of legislation, regulations and broader reform initiatives.

About the role

The successful candidate will contribute to a range of policy projects, with responsibilities likely to include:

• Developing high-quality policy advice and recommendations for senior leaders and Ministers
• Scoping, planning and analysing complex policy and regulatory reform initiatives
• Developing and analysing legislative and regulatory options
• Supporting the development and implementation of legislation and regulations
• Undertaking research, gap analysis and developing options and roadmaps for reform
• Assessing policy, operational, financial and implementation implications
• Leading projects and workstreams through to delivery
• Engaging with government agencies, industry, stakeholders and other external parties
• Supporting consultation and engagement processes
• Contributing to regulatory impact analysis and other formal policy processes
• Preparing material for senior decision-makers and parliamentary processes
• Supporting and mentoring more junior policy advisors.

About you

We are looking for experienced Senior Policy Advisors with strong core policy skills and experience working on complex policy, legislative or regulatory issues.

You will ideally bring:

• Strong experience in policy development and analysis
• Experience in regulatory reform and/or legislative policy or at least part of the legislative process
• The ability to quickly understand complex issues and provide clear, practical advice
• Experience developing policy options and assessing their implications, risks, costs and benefits
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
• Experience working across agencies and with external stakeholders
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to lead projects and workstreams with a high degree of independence
• Confidence working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
• The ability to support and develop less experienced policy colleagues.

Experience working on system-level policy and reform programmes, regulatory impact analysis, legislative processes or parliamentary/select committee processes would be particularly valuable.

Any exposure to areas including financial crime, anti money laundering, counter financing of terrorism (AML / CFT), legal or Justice sector issues woudl also be useful but not essential.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Policy Advisor looking to work on substantive policy and regulatory reform issues within a central government environment.

Wellington based | Fixed-term contract

Salary: $110,000 – $145,000 pro rata, depending on skills and experience.
