Alpha Recruitment is seeking a seasoned Principal Design Engineer to lead complex engineering design projects within the infrastructure sector.

This senior role is ideal for someone recognised as a technical expert who enjoys solving complex problems, leading teams, and engaging with high-level stakeholders.

About the Role

As Principal Design Engineer, you will:

• Lead and deliver complex, time-critical design projects to scope, budget, and industry standards
• Provide technical leadership and peer review across design teams
• Manage stakeholders at senior levels, including executive and board-level contacts
• Generate new and repeat business through trusted client relationships
• Mentor and guide senior engineers and project teams
• Ensure quality professional services with strong commercial awareness
• Champion health, safety, and continuous improvement practice

What You’ll Be Doing

Project & Technical Leadership

• Independently lead multidisciplinary design projects
• Ensure delivery accuracy, compliance, and timely completion
• Collaborate across teams and provide advisory support
• Drive reporting, risk management and system improvements
• Client & Relationship Management

Act as key liaison for major clients and stakeholders

• Build, retain, and grow relationships across the sector
• Engage at senior levels (e.g. CEO, GM, board members)
• Represent the business in industry groups and events
• Professional Services & Quality

Deliver and assure high-quality design solutions

• Manage project workloads and recoverable hours
• Lead business initiatives and contribute to ongoing development
• Uphold quality systems and procedures
• Health, Safety & Compliance

Lead by example in H&S culture and mentorship

• Identify risks and drive continuous improvements
• Participate in audits, reporting and safety forums

About You
You’ll bring:

• A relevant engineering degree or equivalent experience
• Extensive design engineering background
• Expertise across multiple technical design disciplines
• Proven ability to define solutions in ambiguous situations
• Proficiency in relevant engineering systems and technologies
• CPEng preferred (or working toward)
