This central government agency is dedicated to making a meaningful difference for New Zealand's diverse communities. The organisation drives real, meaningful change across the health and social sectors.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi underpins all aspects of the agency's work, with a strong commitment to giving effect to Te Tiriti through kāwanatanga, rangatiratanga, and ōritetanga.
The internal culture heavily reflects the diverse communities it serves. The agency cares deeply about the wellbeing and success of its people, offering a highly supportive, inclusive, and genuinely accessible working environment with reasonable accommodations tailored to individual needs.
About the Role
As a Policy Analyst, you will provide high-quality analysis and advice on core government health-related policy issues. This is a collaborative role where you will represent the agency on inter-agency working groups and build strong networks across health, social sector agencies, and community organisations.
Dedicated coaching, mentorship, and professional support will be provided by the Manager, project leaders, and Senior/Principal policy analysts. To help you build a broad range of skills, you will also have the opportunity to work flexibly across different teams and work programmes within the group.
How You Will Contribute
- Policy Analysis & Advice: Deliver robust analysis and advice on policy issues within specified timeframes, ensuring that the implications of the Treaty of Waitangi, Human Rights, Enabling Good Lives, and equity considerations are fully addressed.
- Policy Development: Represent the agency in the policy development process and actively involve community groups and their whānau in policy reviews.
- Implementation & Project Management: Apply project management methodologies to design practical implementation guidelines for new policies in line with operational standards and legislative requirements.
- Cultural & Accessibility Leadership: Embed a culture of genuine accessibility by identifying and removing barriers, while actively weaving te ao Māori (te reo Māori, tikanga, kawa, Te Tiriti) into your daily mahi.
What You Will Bring
To be successful in this role, you will bring a mix of professional capability and strong community empathy:
- Policy Savvy: A solid understanding of the policy development process, parliamentary processes, and the workings of legislation, backed by strong analytical skills. You will need to already have 1-2 years of policy experience with the NZ public sector.
- Te Tiriti Commitment: A developing or established understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and associated government policy.
- Core Skills: Project management skills, digital literacy (Microsoft suite), and a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (or currently working towards one). Familiarity with basic statistical analysis is desirable.
