An exciting short-term opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Advisor to contribute to a period of significant transformation within Aotearoa New Zealand’s health system.

This role sits within a national clinical leadership function and plays a critical part in supporting the delivery of high-quality advice, briefings, and ministerial responses during a time of reform aligned to the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) vision.  In this role you will be working between the Takapuna and Manukau offices with 2-3 WFH days.  Starting Mid-May the cover is for 6-8 weeks.

Working closely with senior leaders, you will provide expert advisory support to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality outputs to government stakeholders, including Ministers’ offices.

You’ll be at the centre of fast-paced, high-impact work – shaping responses, supporting key priorities, and helping drive improvements across the health system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft high-quality ministerial correspondence, briefings, aide memoires, and reports
  • Prepare responses for Official Information Act (OIA) requests, Parliamentary Questions, and select committees
  • Provide strategic advice across clinical leadership and support organisational priorities
  • Analyse complex information, identify risks/issues, and recommend solutions
  • Support policy development, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Build strong relationships across internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to projects aligned to health system transformation and clinical leadership priorities

About You

You’re an experienced Senior Advisor with strong government or public sector experience, ideally within the health sector. You’re confident working in a fast-moving environment and thrive on delivering high-quality work under pressure.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience producing Ministerial servicing outputs (OIA, PQs, briefings, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of government processes, policy, and legislation
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to synthesise complex information and provide clear, actionable advice
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping and supporting the delivery of equitable health outcomes for communities across Aotearoa. Your work will directly contribute to a system focused on improving wellbeing, accessibility, and quality of care for all.
