Are you a recent Biomedical Engineering graduate looking for a hands-on role where you can develop specialist technical skills while making a real difference in people's lives?
We have an exciting opportunity to join a large healthcare organisation in Dunedin as part of the setup and launch of a brand-new clinical department. This is a unique chance to gain practical experience working with cutting-edge medical equipment, supported by an experienced team who will help you develop your skills in Clinical Engineering.
This project-based role will run from June through October 2026, with the potential for a permanent opportunity for the right person.
About the Role
Working alongside experienced Clinical Engineering professionals, you'll be involved in the installation, testing, maintenance, and management of medical equipment that plays a critical role in patient care.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the setup of a new healthcare department
- Unboxing, checking, and preparing medical equipment for use
- Recording and tracking equipment within internal systems
- Supporting electrical safety testing and equipment inspections
- Assisting with equipment installation and commissioning
- Learning to perform preventative maintenance, calibration, and basic repairs
- Maintaining accurate service and compliance records
- Supporting quality assurance and risk management processes
- Ensuring equipment meets relevant healthcare and engineering standards
Initially, the role will be standard business hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
As the project progresses toward opening, some overtime and occasional weekend work may be required.
About You
We are looking for motivated graduates who are eager to learn and build a long-term career in Clinical Engineering.
You may have:
- A completed NZQA Level 7 Engineering qualification (or equivalent)
- An interest in electronics, biomedical technology, or healthcare engineering
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Good communication and organisational abilities
- A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to learn
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team
Previous Clinical Engineering experience is not required. Full support and on-the-job training will be provided.
Graduates working towards EWRB registration or relevant electrical licences are strongly encouraged to apply.
