Use your lived experience to create meaningful change!
Are you passionate about supporting people on their recovery journey and helping others discover hope and possibility?
Our client is a leading national for-purpose organisation providing mental health, addiction, disability, offender rehabilitation, wellbeing and housing services across Aotearoa. They are looking for two Peer Support Specialists to join their Papakura-based team and bring their own lived experience to a role where it can make a genuine difference.
There are two part-time opportunities available:
- 24 hours per week – Mondays and Fridays are required
- 32 hours per week
About the role
You’ll be part of a community-based Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service supporting adults aged 18+.
Rather than working solely from a traditional clinical setting, you’ll meet tāngata whaiora in places where they feel comfortable and connected – whether that’s in their home, a local park or a communal living environment.
Working within a dual peer support and clinical model, you’ll partner equally with experienced Clinicians to provide holistic, culturally responsive AOD assessment, treatment and outreach.
Your lived experience will be a valuable part of your mahi. You’ll use your own recovery journey to build authentic connections, encourage hope, share your insights and empower tāngata whaiora to make choices that are right for them.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, authentic and confident using their lived experience in a professional setting.
You’ll need:
- Lived experience of mental distress and/or alcohol and other drug recovery, with an established recovery journey. Please share details of your lived experience and recovery journey in your application.
- Peer Employment Training (PET) from a DHB-approved education provider.
- NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Peer Support), Level 4, or an equivalent qualification.
- A current First Aid certificate including CPR, or the willingness and ability to obtain one.
- A full, clean New Zealand driver licence.
Why join?
You’ll be joining an organisation that values its people and invests in their wellbeing, development and future.
- Comprehensive wellbeing support, including counselling, budgeting advice, coaching and mental health workshops.
- Staff discounts across a range of outlets.
- Generous leave provisions, including wellbeing, cultural and study leave where applicable.
- Ongoing learning, training and professional development opportunities.
- Inclusive, supportive teams guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and our Pou.
- Genuine opportunities to develop your career within one of Aotearoa’s largest for-purpose organisations.
If you’re ready to turn your lived experience into positive change and support people to take meaningful steps towards recovery, we’d love to hear from you.
