Are you a practical, self-driven couple with a love for horticulture and working outdoors? We are seeking two experienced gardeners/caretakers to help maintain and enhance the grounds of two large private residential properties located on a stunning island off the cost of Whitianga.

About the Role

Working alongside the small onsite team, you will play a key role in ensuring the gardens, landscapes and outdoor spaces are beautifully presented and well maintained. The role also includes supporting wider island operations when needed, all while following farm, predator-free and rural environment guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performing general gardening tasks such as pruning, planting, weeding, irrigation, and flax trimming
  • Maintaining vegetable gardens, orchards, lawns, pathways and tracks
  • Carrying out safe chemical handling, storage and use for spraying programmes
  • Undertaking external property maintenance, cleaning and rubbish removal
  • Cleaning and refuelling vehicles, tools and machinery
  • Assisting with broader island activities, including barge operations, conservation work and biosecurity tasks
  • Completing other reasonable duties as required

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong horticultural knowledge, particularly with native coastal plantings
  • Experience with propagation and productive gardening (vegetables and orchards)
  • Good mechanical aptitude and ability to follow maintenance schedules
  • Boating skills and relevant qualifications are a significant advantage
