Our client is a well-established and highly respected commercial roofing business, proudly based in Waikato and delivering projects across the Waikato and Auckland regions. An opportunity has arisen for a hands-on Finance Manager to join the business and take ownership of the financial management across two business entities. This is a trusted leadership role, reporting directly to the Managing Director and shareholders, where you will play a key part in ensuring the business has accurate financial insights to support smart operational and strategic decisions.
Working closely with operational teams and supporting one direct report, you will oversee the day-to-day financial operations while providing clear and meaningful financial reporting to leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Job costing review and analysis across projects
- Preparation of annual budgets
- Tax compliance including GST, FBT, DWT and income tax
- Supervision and mentoring of the Assistant Accountant
- Accounts receivable oversight and subcontractor payment management
- Cashflow management and forecasting
- Monthly and annual financial reporting and analysis
- High-level payroll and HR support
- Liaison with external accountants and banking partners
- Reviewing and improving financial systems and processes
To be successful in this role you will bring both technical financial expertise and commercial insight, along with the ability to work closely with operational teams.
Ideally you will have:
- Proven experience in a Finance Manager or senior accounting role
- Construction industry experience, including strong understanding of job costing and project reporting
- A relevant Accounting, Finance or Commerce degree
- Strong knowledge of New Zealand accounting and tax requirements
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial systems capability
- Experience with MYOB AccountRight and/or Xero
- The ability to translate financial information into practical insights for non-financial managers
- A proactive, adaptable approach and the confidence to take ownership of financial processes
