Blueberry Country is New Zealand’s largest blueberry grower, with over 450 hectares in production across four orchards spanning Waikato, Hauraki Plains, Southland, and Northland. Family-owned since the 1980s, they grow, harvest, process, pack and distribute fresh and frozen blueberries throughout New Zealand and selected export markets, while also operating popular Pick Your Own (PYO) experiences each summer.
About the role
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this is a hands-on and strategic finance role with oversight of the financial functions of the business. This role will suit a qualified accountant who enjoys both operational finance and higher-level financial planning. You’ll work closely across all areas of the business including operations, logistics and management.
This is a permanent part-time role of approximately 15–20 hours per week, with flexibility around days and hours to suit your lifestyle.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with statutory obligations including GST, FBT, payroll and IRD filings
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting and provide analysis to support business decisions
- Partner with managers across the business to improve reporting, systems and financial processes
- Support cash flow forecasting, financial modelling and strategic planning with the General Manager
- Liaise with external accountants, banking partners and other key stakeholders
- Identify opportunities for automation, efficiencies and process improvement
- Develop strategies to minimise financial risk and ensure legal compliance across the business
What we are looking for
We’re looking for someone who brings both strong technical accounting expertise and commercial insight. You will bring a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, along with a strong analytical mindset and the ability to interpret financial information confidently. Commercially aware and solutions-focused, you are comfortable challenging the status quo and have the technical expertise to support sound financial decision-making across the business.
You will have:
- A recognised accounting qualification
- Several years’ experience in a similar Finance Manager or senior accounting role
- Confidence working across both transactional and strategic finance functions
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
